Most cloud storage comparisons resolve into an argument about jurisdiction: where the company is based, which laws apply, whose intelligence services can compel what. That argument is genuinely useful when you are weighing a European provider against an American one.
It is useless here. Infomaniak and Proton are both headquartered in Geneva. Both fall under Swiss law. Whatever you think about Switzerland as a place to store data, you think it about both of them equally. So the comparison has to be made on something else - and that something else turns out to be a single decision that explains almost every other difference between them.

Proton Drive encrypts your files so that Proton cannot read them. kDrive keeps the keys, so Infomaniak can. Everything else follows from that. Neither of these is the wrong answer. They are answers to different questions.
The one difference that generates the others
Proton Drive is built on end-to-end encryption. Files are encrypted on your device before they leave it, and Proton does not hold the means to decrypt them. The company's inability to read your data is the product.
kDrive encrypts data in transit and at rest, with Infomaniak managing the keys. Your files are protected from interception and from someone walking off with a disk, but the service itself is technically able to process them. Infomaniak does not market kDrive as zero-knowledge, and that is a design decision rather than a gap.
Read that as a trade rather than a ranking, because it cuts both ways.
What Proton Drive gives up by not being able to read your files: real-time collaborative editing is hard to offer when the server cannot see the document. Server-side search inside file contents is hard when the contents are opaque. Previews, thumbnails and format conversion all normally happen on a server that can open the file.
What kDrive gives up by holding the keys: the guarantee. A provider that can technically read your files is a provider that can be compelled to, or breached in a way that exposes them. Swiss law and Infomaniak's own policies constrain what happens in practice - but a policy is a promise, and end-to-end encryption is an architecture. That distinction is the entire reason zero-knowledge services exist.
Where the Swiss argument still matters - and where it does not

Switzerland is not in the European Union and is not part of the Five, Nine or Fourteen Eyes arrangements. Swiss data protection law is generally regarded as strong, and neither company is subject to the US legal instruments that let American authorities reach data held by American providers abroad.
All of that is a real advantage - and both of them have it. If you arrived here because you want to leave a US provider, either one moves you. Choosing between them on "which is more Swiss" is a question with no answer.

This is the ordinary economics of end-to-end encryption and of scale, not a sign that one is overpriced. Check current pricing directly - any article citing exact figures is citing a snapshot that ages badly.
Recovery. This is where the encryption model becomes concrete. A zero-knowledge provider genuinely cannot recover your data if you lose your credentials and your recovery method, because that is what zero-knowledge means. A provider holding the keys can be more forgiving. Whichever you choose, set up the recovery method on day one.

Choose Proton Drive if you are storing material you want no provider technically able to open - identity documents, financial and medical records, contracts, source material you are responsible for - or if you already use Proton's other services and want one account for all of them.
Choose kDrive if your daily use is collaborative work rather than archival, you want more storage for the money, or you want a Swiss-hosted suite for a small organisation and you accept that the provider can process your files.
Use both if your needs are genuinely mixed, which is common. The discipline that makes this work is deciding in advance which category a file belongs to, rather than letting habit choose for you.
